In our ARTS2065 class, my group worked on a video project exploring the stalker's point of view (POV). This exercise involved using camera techniques to evoke tension, unease, and a sense of being watched.
To capture the stalker's POV, we used creative camera movements and angles. Shots were framed from hidden positions, like behind objects or partially through doorways, to simulate the feeling of someone spying. We incorporated shaky handheld camera movements to mimic the stalker’s footsteps, creating an unsettling sense of motion. Sound design amplified the tension with faint footsteps, the stalker's breathing, and the muted hum of people's voices in the classroom, drawing the viewer into the stalker’s unsettling perspective.
Through this project, we learned how small decisions in camera work, such as angle, movement, and focus, can drastically shift the narrative tone. As a group, we also discovered the importance of collaboration, especially in blocking scenes and syncing our movements with the camera to ensure seamless tracking shots. This exercise was an eye-opening experience in how video can manipulate the audience’s emotions and immerse them in a character’s perspective.
